In this work, we present a novel abiotic glucose fuel cell with battery-less remote access. In the presence of a glucose analyte, we characterized the power generation and biosensing capabilities. This system is developed on a flexible substrate in bacterial nanocellulose with gold nanoparticles used as a conductive ink for piezoelectric deposition based printing. The abiotic glucose fuel cell is constructed using colloidal platinum on gold (Au-co-Pt) and a composite of silver oxide nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes as the anodic and cathodic materials. At a concentration of 20 mM glucose, the glucose fuel cell produced a maximum open circuit voltage of 0.57 V and supplied a maximum short circuit current density of 0.581 mA/cm2 with a peak power density of 0.087 mW/cm2 . The system was characterized by testing its performance using electrochemical techniques like linear sweep voltammetry, cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry in the presence of various glucose level at the physiological temperatures. An open circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.43 V, short circuit current density (Isc) of 0.405 mA/cm2 , and maximum power density (Pmax) of 0.055 mW/cm2 at 0.23 V were achieved in the presence of 5 mM physiologic glucose. The results indicate that glucose fuel cells can be employed for the development of a self-powered glucose sensor. The glucose monitoring device demonstrated sensitivity of 1.87 uA/mMcm2 and a linear dynamic range of 1 mM to 45 mM with a correlation coefficient of 0.989 when utilized as a self-powered glucose sensor. For wireless communication, the incoming voltage from the abiotic fuel cell was fed to a low power microcontroller that enables battery less communication using NFC technology. The voltage translates to the NFC module as the digital signals, which are displayed on a custom-built android application. The digital signals are converted to respective glucose concentration using a correlation algorithm that allows data to be processed and recorded for further analysis. The android application is designed to record the time, date stamp, and other independent features (e.g. age, height, weight) with the glucose measurement to allow the end-user to keep track of their glucose levels regularly. Analytics based on in-vitro testing were conducted to build a machine learning model that enables future glucose prediction for 15, 30 or 60 minutes

    Landau-like states in neutral particles

We show the emergence of a new type of dispersion relation for neutral atoms with an interesting similarity with the spectrum of 2-dimensional electrons in an applied perpendicular constant magnetic field. These neutral atoms can be confined in toroidal optical traps and give quasi Landau spectra. In strong contrast to the equi-distant infinitely degenerate Landau levels for charged particles, the spectral gap for such 2-dimensional neutral particles increases in particular electric field configurations. The idea in the paper is motivated by the development in cold atom experiments and builds on the seminal paper of Aharonov and Casher.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

Changing Features of the Automobile Industry in Asia:Comparison of Production, Trade and Market Structure in Selected Countries

The global automotive industry, increasingly characterized by global mergers and relocation of production centers to emerging developing economies, is in the grips of a global price-war. The industry is subject to imperfect competition which has resulted in too much of everything — too much capacity, too many competitors and too much redundancy and overlap. The industry is concerned with consumer demands for styling, safety, and comfort; and with labor relations and manufacturing efficiency. In this context, the study examines the growth patterns, changes in ownership structures, trade patterns and role of governments of selected Asian countries (viz. China, India, Indonesia and Thailand) in the automobile sector.Automobile, Asia, Market Structure

Omega Chronicles: Mapping the Landscape of Violence in Japanese Manga

    Get PDF
Influenced by the traditional Edo culture where homosexuality was prevalent, Japanese manga artists do not shy away from portraying different gender relationships explicitly through art. Among the contemporary homosexual genres of Yaoi, Yuri, Shounen-ai, and Shoujo-ai found in Japanese manga, the concept of Omegaverse, a subgenre of erotic slash fiction, has been gaining popularity. The term “omegaverse” is a combination of the words “omega” and “universe”. The omegaverse is an alternate universe where, apart from the primary gender of male and female, three other secondary genders of alpha (α), beta (β), and omega (Ω), also exists. This results in six genders in total, with each primary gender further classified into three secondary genders. The societal structure is usually based on the “wolf’s hierarchy” where alphas possess the features of alpha wolves and are considered superior. On the other hand, omegas are considered inferior and possess the ability to reproduce, irrespective of being male or female. Though there are also heterosexual and lesbian omegaverses, the term is most widely used for boys’ love genres like Yaoi and Shounen-ai, and is often referred to as a world where men can get pregnant, creating a new subgenre called Mpreg. This article focuses on understanding the dehumanizing factors of omegaverse, which strip humans of the most basic value of reason (which differentiates them from animals), using three manga, namely Kiraide Isasete, The Alpha’s Bride and Remnant Kemonohito, which cater to omegaverse boys’ love.&nbsp

In this work, a low power microcontroller-based near field communication (NFC) interfaced with a flexible abiotic glucose hybrid fuel cell is designed to function as a battery-less glucose sensor. The abiotic glucose fuel cell is fabricated by depositing colloidal platinum (co–Pt) on the anodic region and silver oxide nanoparticles-multiwalled carbon nanotubes (Ag2O-MWCNTs) composite on the cathodic region. The electrochemical behavior is characterized using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. This glucose hybrid fuel cell generated an open circuit voltage of 0.46 V, short circuit current density of 0.444 mA/cm2, and maximum power density of 0.062 mW/cm2 at 0.26 V in the presence of 7 mM physiologic glucose. Upon device integration of the abiotic glucose hybrid fuel cell with the NFC module, the data from the glucose monitoring system is successfully transmitted to an android application for visualization at the user interface. The cell voltage correlated (r2 = 0.989) with glucose concentration (up to 19 mM) with a sensitivity of 13.9 mV/mM•cm2

An Intelligent Approach to Reducing Plant Disease and Enhancing Productivity Using Machine Learning

Plant diseases are a normal part of the natural world, and they are one of the many ecological processes that work together to keep the vast number of living organisms in the world in a state of equilibrium with one another. Each plant cell has its own set of signalling pathways that help the plant fight off viruses, animals, and insects. Concerns have been raised about whether or not it is possible to use machine learning to make crop predictions based mostly on weather data. The goal of the research is to help users choose the right crop to grow so that they can maximise their yield and, as a result, the money they make from the project. In a rural area where almost half the people work in agriculture, one of the most important problems is when farmers can't use traditional or other non-scientific methods to choose a crop that will grow well in their soil. Researchers can't make use of case studies as well as they could because there isn't enough correct and up-to-date information available. With the resources at our disposal, we have proposed a model that makes use of random forests and the genetic algorithm. This model has the potential to solve this problem by providing predictive insights on the long-term viability of crops and recommendations based on machine-reading models that have been trained to take important environmental parameters into consideration.

Superposed periodic kink and pulse solutions of coupled nonlinear equations

We present novel previously unexplored periodic solutions, expressed in terms of Jacobi elliptic functions, for both a coupled Ď•4\phi^4 model and a coupled nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation (NLS) model. Remarkably, these solutions can be elegantly reformulated as a linear combination of periodic kinks and antikinks, or as a combination of two periodic kinks or two periodic pulse solutions. However, we also find that for m=0m=0 and a specific value of the periodicity (or at a nonzero value of the elliptic modulus mm) this superposition does not hold. These results demonstrate that the notion of superposed solutions extends to the coupled nonlinear equations as well.Comment: Final published versio
